Question 1

How much does TMS cost in Salt Lake City?

Accepted Answer

Clinics in this area generally quote $230 to $400 a session, and a full course runs 30 to 36 sessions. With insurance most people pay a specialist copay per visit instead. Ask each clinic for the per-session rate and the total course estimate before you start — the cash price and the authorised price are very different numbers.

Question 2

Does insurance cover TMS in Utah?

Accepted Answer

Most commercial insurers, Medicare, and many Medicare Advantage plans cover TMS for major depressive disorder when prior treatments haven't worked. Insurers typically want documentation of at least two antidepressant trials at an adequate dose and duration, often plus psychotherapy. Coverage and prior-authorisation rules still vary by plan, so confirm with both the clinic and your insurer before you start.

Question 3

How long is a course of TMS?

Accepted Answer

Most clinics serving Salt Lake City run a six-week course — five sessions a week for four to six weeks, then a taper. A single session lasts anywhere from three minutes to thirty-seven, depending on whether the clinic runs intermittent theta burst or a standard 10 Hz protocol. Ask which one they use; it changes how much of your day this takes for six weeks.

Question 4

Do I need a referral to start TMS?

Accepted Answer

Nearly every clinic here requires a psychiatric evaluation before the first session, and most will not put you on the schedule until your insurer has authorised the course. Gathering that paperwork is usually the slowest part. Call the clinic first — many handle the referral and prior-authorisation path for you.

Question 5

Can I drive myself home after a session?

Accepted Answer

Yes. TMS is an outpatient treatment with no anesthesia or sedation. Patients stay awake during the session and typically drive themselves home and return to work the same day. That is one of the practical differences from procedures that require recovery time.

Question 6

What if TMS does not work for me?

Accepted Answer

TMS does not help everyone. Registry trials show a substantial share of people improve, and a smaller share reach remission — which also means a real share do not respond. If a course does not help, ask the clinic about a different protocol, a longer taper, or other options they offer. A listing on this page is not a prediction that TMS will work for you.
