Dr. Phuong Tran and Dr. Jason Kellog's teams are amazing!! I am truly grateful to Dr. Tran's vision and practice regarding healthcare and wellbeing. Major appreciation for Carolyn, Aubrey, Kristal, Sidra, Madelyn, Jen, Julie, Angel, and the whole team! Natalie and Aeden are amazing Care Coordinators as well! Thank you so much! I'm big on paying kindness forward. Thank you for your kindness, while being professional, attentive, diligent, and efficient! Healthcare is so important, thank you for making my experiences one I am grateful and inspired to share with others. As someone who is focusing in the field of clinical psychology, learning to understand the academics, science of it, and through my own personal experience, I know I am in great hands!!

I was compelled to make my first review on Google because of my terrible experience at Progeny in Irvine. I stopped going to them because of an incident in which I had an appointment to which and I called in to let them know I'll be 10 minutes late for my appointment. One would think that they would give you an allotted time of about 40-60 min… so if they are going to charge me for 40-60 min, why does it matter if I'm 10 mins late???? There would still be 40-50 min to work with! Instead, they told me it would be considered a missed appt and told me I owe them money for a missed appt which would come out of my own pocket! Are you serious! So they just made 50$ from me for being 10 min late when I just needed to come in to see them for a simple script. I don't even know why I need to come in every month just for the same script I've been taking for years. Ridiculous and insensitive! And it's been hard getting anyone on the phone to even listen to you! If you need mental help, stay away from this place, they will make your situation worse once you realized you are nothing but a number to them and they don't actually care.Theres better places out there! And shame on Progeny for trying to trick the yelpers by changing the information on their original Yelp page to make it look like it is not active because they are trying to escape all of their negative reviews.

I have a Autistic son who was seeing Dr.phoung Tran since 2016 thru now. He hardly never respond something get serious. My son is non-varbal lately Phone appt ONLY and if I miss one call then he canceled appt and wait until 6weeks ? Do you think this make sense. He only takes client by his own convenience. If client needs to see in person for some symptoms occurs right. If anything gets worse if it becomes life threatening don't know how he is going acts. Numerously taking multi medication He is suffering just taking so many of them. Dr.who prescribed med should know how it interact one and other. My son has bad side effects he can not open his mouth to chewing food. I still don't heard from Dr. and I guess I have to take him to ER or seeing other Psychiatric Dr. This experience is so terrible.

If you are really struggling and want help from people who have zero empathy then I HIGHLY recommend this place. I am struggling with severe physical symptoms of anxiety. My first Psychiatrist was ok. Towards the end of my unsuccessful treatment with her she completely discouraged me by saying I showed zero progress in all the time she has been treating me. Not appropriate to say to someone who is trying to find hope to keep going and ESPCIALLY not appropriate when I was being told to choose my own medicine the entire time. That is not my job as the patient. Today I went in with another Psychiatrist thinking I would finally get the help I need. She was similar to the first one but definitely worse. Barley listened to me and my concerns and had me out the door with a new medicine in less then 10 minutes. No explanation of the new medicine, side effects, brushed off all my concerns. And said "See you in 4 weeks." There are much better clinics then this one.

Today, I had my first scheduled in-person appointment with Dr. Phuong Tran. Unfortunately, major problems have arisen since I first saw Dr. Tran a few months ago. When I arrived for my 8:45 a.m. appointment, I checked in and paid my co-pay at the front desk, finishing at 8:53 and obtaining a paper receipt. I sat down—there was one other person in the lobby. Dr. Tran came out, called in someone named David, looked at me, and I looked back. David eventually went in with him; note that Dr. Tran and I had never met in person or via video before. After some time, David left, so I waited for my turn. At around 9:36, I asked the front desk what was going on. The person now there (masculine-presenting) was different from the one I’d checked in with (feminine-presenting). He reviewed my appointment and verified my co-pay, then told me that while I was paying, Dr. Tran had marked me as a no-show. He added that patients are allowed only five minutes of slack time before being counted absent and that I would be charged a $50 no-show fee. I have since reviewed all the forms I filled out, and none mention this rule. In decades of seeing doctors, I have never been marked as a no-show after checking in and paying, even if a few minutes late. My first appointment with Dr. Tran had also been unusual. It was scheduled online between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. I was in the meeting room early, tried calling and texting when no one appeared, and waited at least 15 minutes. Dr. Tran later said he’d been waiting in the room too, but I never saw him. Fortunately, he met with me later that day by phone and didn’t count it as a no-show, which I appreciated. We had one or two more phone appointments after that. I eventually decided to meet Dr. Tran in person. He warned that in-person times were limited, but nowhere in my reminders or paperwork did I see mention of a five-minute grace period. Perhaps he told me verbally, but this should be clearly written and easily accessible to patients. Online reviews for Progeny Psychiatric Clinic warn that front desk and office staff are problematic—issues I now understand firsthand. Dr. Tran himself was kind and knowledgeable, identifying that the psychiatric PA I’d seen before him was inexperienced and prescribing risky combinations. His appointments were short—around 15 minutes—similar to the PA’s, though my previous psychiatrist typically spent about an hour. As you can tell from my review, I am hurt, frustrated, and disappointed. I know healthcare workers face immense pressure from insurance and scheduling demands, and I respect the vital service they provide. Still, it’s upsetting that after paying and waiting nearly an hour, I was told I was a no-show—especially after earlier meeting mishaps. Sadly, I think I need to find another psychiatric provider. I hope Dr. Tran and Progeny Psychiatric become more flexible and give patients more time in the future.
