They will imprison you, cost you your job, and bill you. I went to the emergency room voluntarily for a medical condition--not arrested, not suicidal, not homicidal, acting normal, polite, and never was a self harm. Once I was released out of the emergency room to the main hospital they will try to get you to the behavioral facility and hold you for as long as possible and bill you for it, if they can. In my case they were clearly short on normal hospital beds, but not short on the behavioral health beds. It took over a day to get out of the emergency department, but a literal 5 minute interview with a psychiatrist to get me to Behavioral Health. Once you get to behavioral health, they take your phone, treat you like garbage, threaten you with State psychiatric hospital placement, and you are held involuntarily for days. I lost a 100k plus job for missing work bc of what they did. Dr. Shah (psychiatrist) is part of the problem of "upcoding" (look up the definition if you don't know it), and Matthew Botnick (psychologist) certainly enjoys threatening to send to Osawatomie...even people like me who have never been involuntarily held before and went to the hospital with nothing mental health related. Additionally, the behavioral health staff are abusive and they enjoy it. Advent wants people in the seats at whatever part of the hospital is not full for financial reasons. Look up Blue Cross and Blue Shield and their fight with Advent regarding not covering for them overdiagnosing/treating patients. The other reviews speak for themselves and match what I'm saying. Also please look at filing complaints with the board of healing arts with physicians, and with psychologists do it with the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.

I checked myself in for a mental health crisis in June of 2025. The intake process from the emergency department was very easy. They allowed my mom and boyfriend to leave a bag of supplies they brought. The nurses went through it and set aside items I couldn’t take in. They explained the process and what to do for the best outcome. I followed it to the letter and was out the evening of my fourth day. They provided the support, guidance, and medication I needed to have a better routine and begin the healing process. I went to the group therapy program for five weeks afterwards. I truly appreciate the staff at both places. The one star removed is because the bathrooms in the rooms are a bit icky so I am glad I had waterproof shoes.

Unsanitary. Unhelpful. Undignified. This review is written on behalf of a friend or relative who does not wish to face further retaliation for speaking out about her experience with this facility. Let me start with the good: three excellent staff members, who genuinely were helpful and respectful to patients. They are: Anny, Jenny, and Moma (sp?). Apologies if we have gotten names wrong. Those people get a 5/5 stars and were the only bright spot in this whole experience. She checked herself in for a mental health crisis. The check-in process took almost 12 hours (past midnight). Once checked in, there was very little help available. Rather, patients are heavily drugged so as to make them compliant and easy to control. Patients are left in beds with no place to even walk around to get physical exercise (something vital to mental health). The food was unhealthy and not balanced. A place to help with mental health should provide a healthy diet. Patients are not allowed access to their cell phones, or any phones. There are only 2 one-hour visiting times each day and those times correspond with the time the patient is allowed to use their cell phones. So if you have an in-person visitor yet also need to respond to calls and texts, you will be doing both at the same time. During the day, patients are required to attend regimented group therapy classes. These classes go until 9pm and are mandatory. So if you are an early bird, you will likely struggle with this schedule. Showers were deplorable. The water was tepid at best and the some showers were timed (though patients are not aware of this until the shower shuts off). The towels given to patients are slightly larger than a hand-towel, threadbare and in my loved one's case, had a piece of candy stuck to it that had made it through the wash/dry cycle and was still stuck to the towel (not apparent to the patient until after her shower when she was unfolding the towel to dry herself). The psych (?) on duty (Dr. Hahn maybe?) was dismissive and disrespectful to my loved one. When my loved one decided this facility was not helping her AT ALL and decided to leave the facility in search of better help, she was punished. The Doctor told her he would not allow her to be on the Rx's she had been started on while there and she needed (one being an antibiotic for a severe infection - so she had started the antibiotic but was not allowed to finish out the course - a huge issue for anyone dealing with severe infection). He forced her to leave without Rx's. The Dr also told her though there is intensive outpatient treatment available (which my loved one felt would be a more helpful form of therapy for her), the visibly angry doctor told her, "Ya, were are not going to do that for you." It was clear he was punishing her for wanting to leave the inpatient facility before he said she could. People coming to these places are in need of help. They are not criminals. And honestly, even if they were, THEY DESERVE RESPECT AND COMPASSION first and foremost. Doctors should not punish patients who do not find this facility to be helpful and should not be allowed to retaliate against patients. Doctors should aim to help patients and treat them with compassion and dignity. Shame on this facility.

Don't ever go to Advent and complain about anything, mental or emotional you're going through! More than likely if you do, they will lock you up, treat you like an animal, and send you up state to Oswatmie KS or Cottonwood Springs Mental facility! I had an officer physically attack me and the patient advocates did nothing and this was while I had to have surgery! Officer Jackie, badge 22 needs to be fired and Advent is going to protect her at all cost! Beware of this hospital!! You've been warned! Read about the recent lawsuit against them!

i see these reviews and i just pray pray pray. yes i am a christian but become a much stronger one after staying at this place. this place didn’t even give me my right meds one of the nights i was there. i left my door open the whole stay for my own safety but i just heard them gossip about me the whole time when i was finally catching up on the sleep i missed for 3 days. none of these doctors want to help you. doctor hahn told me i was going to be bullied regardless of where i worked. and i begged maureen to help me set up with a therapist before i left but she didn’t she just made fun of my cats name and left. they gave me a 40 page packet but most of the papers were blank or were same prints. nobody helped me fill out a safety form. it’s awful to say but my thoughts did get worse after i left here. the only people that actually care about you there are the other patients.
