I’ve been using Awakenings KC for about a year. The first six months went very well, but after my original provider left the practice, my experience has become increasingly concerning. Since the beginning of this year, every prescription I’ve received has had some kind of issue — wrong dosage, wrong medication type, prescriptions sent for the wrong month, missing prescriptions entirely. In April, I received the wrong prescription. In May, they failed to issue one at all, while somehow simultaneously issuing one for June. These are controlled substances, and many of them are already difficult to fill due to ongoing shortages. When mistakes happen, delays matter. I’ve had situations where, by the time errors were corrected, the medication was already out of stock, leaving me without it for days. I understand the shortage itself is not necessarily the practice’s fault, but the repeated administrative and prescribing errors absolutely are. At this point, the pattern is what concerns me most. This isn’t an isolated mistake anymore — it has become consistent enough that I no longer feel confident in the practice’s ability to manage controlled medications responsibly. In my case, this involves ADHD medication, which is disruptive enough when handled improperly. But this same level of carelessness is being applied to patients who may rely on these medications simply to function safely day to day. That is deeply troubling. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Awakenings based on my recent experiences. UPDATE: After leaving a message with Awakenings KC on Friday of Memorial Day weekend, it is now Tuesday, and the situation has somehow gotten worse. This morning, I received notifications both from the patient portal and from CVS Pharmacy saying that a prescription had been submitted — except it was marked “too early to fill.” After everything that has happened over the past several months, I checked the details myself. They sent in the wrong prescription again. At this point, this is no longer an occasional oversight or understandable human error. There has been a continuous pattern of incorrect dosages, wrong medications, missing prescriptions, redundant prescriptions, and now repeated submission of entirely incorrect controlled substances. These are medications that patients rely on to function normally, maintain employment, and in some cases preserve their mental stability and safety. Mistakes happen in healthcare. Repeated mistakes involving controlled substances, with no apparent improvement or safeguards put in place, are another matter entirely. I genuinely cannot recommend Awakenings KC anymore based on my experience this year.

I am reviewing two different TMS therapy providers based on my personal experience. My experience at this TMS clinic had some challenges and was not as consistent as I had hoped, especially compared to another provider I have attended. At Progressive Psychiatry in the Chicago area, treatment was performed with consistent protocols and careful attention to detail. Each patient had individually marked caps to help ensure consistent coil placement, and the same technician handled my sessions. My treatment spot was carefully measured and replicated, and my sessions were approximately 35–40 minutes long. I did not experience pain during treatment, and the overall process felt consistent and well-structured. In my experience, this approach led to more noticeable and stronger results three years ago, even though the treatment was partial, and I would recommend Progressive Psychiatry for TMS therapy. At KC Awakening, I experienced more variability in technician practices and treatment delivery. At the beginning of my treatment, I experienced increased depressive and anxiety-related symptoms, which I believe may have been related to the discomfort during early sessions. I did request that sessions start more gradually, though this was not always possible to accommodate. Different technicians handled my sessions, and I received varying information regarding treatment length. I was told that sessions would be approximately 2 minutes, during which some time was spent adjusting the machine and locating the correct placement, which reduced the amount of time dedicated to treatment delivery. I observed other patients receiving longer sessions (around 9 minutes). My pain tolerance limited me to approximately 43–48% intensity on average, and I was not able to reach beyond 50% intensity due to discomfort. I also had a consultation with the physician, and a longer session duration (approximately 20 minutes) with lower intensity was approved. However, I was not provided with these longer sessions in practice. I did begin receiving approximately 9-minute sessions, which included time spent adjusting the equipment and discussing intensity at the beginning of sessions, as I consistently explained that the treatment was often sharply painful at the start. MagVenture® machine is used for TMS treatment by both clinics. The image of the KC Awakening machine attached. It is the same technology that is used in the clinic Progressive Psychiatry in Chicago area. Overall, in my experience, consistency and treatment delivery varied at times. I hope the clinic KC Awakening continues to review and refine its protocols to help ensure a more consistent experience for future patients.

Their providers say on Zocdoc that they take my insurance. I called and confirmed they were in network. Then I got scheduled and spent 1.5 hours on their new patient paperwork. Then less than 2 business days before my appointment, I received a text saying they canceled my appointment because they're not in network with my insurance! They didn't even give me the option to pay out of pocket and they wasted time I could have spent actually finding care. They deserve 0 stars.

I had a fantastic experience with TMS here. As someone trying it for the first time, I was initially hesitant and a bit nervous, but Marjorie, my nurse, made the process feel easy, approachable, and even enjoyable. I can't yet speak to the long-term effectiveness of the treatment, but I’d absolutely return—especially if Marjorie is on staff. Her support made all the difference.

I’m currently on my third round of TMS and Awakenings has been great. Marjorie makes me look forward to coming in every day- she’s compassionate and professional, but also fun and easy going. I honestly don’t know how she does it all! I tell everyone I know how much coming here and doing TMS has helped me.
